As any major awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
- Another creative title was excluded that year
- A beloved organization game was overlooked in 2021
- Only a few puzzle games scraped into niche award types
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games globally and have been for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
