A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Victory also means he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to get a championship is particularly special," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an better serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
